Doesn't the boost have to come from you to get double? Or is that only combined checks?
Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Should I narrate my speech an manners first to allow the others to key off it and then roll? I know that’s not how things are supposed to go but it seems like we are kinda hung up on the how to add the assist(s).

I'll post something real quick that should narratively give your character a boost
Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Looks like I need to bump up that Coercion skill some.
I guess he isn’t intimidated into giving us the stuff freely but may believe we are dangerous enough not to completely piss off?

Oh man, Hoss is gonna be pissed if we fail this mission. Maybe we can see if the rebellion is hiring?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Well, before the blood bath begins, I'm happy to try for a Deception as one last try.
Maybe Bardax intervenes to calm the situation and uses his delecate appearance to try and trick Boomer into doing us this small favour. He may already be on the back foot surprised from Rashk's approach so he might be swayed with the sudden change of conversation tone?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
That is only vigilance and perception checks. And it is just granted I don't need to do anything special for that.crazybirdman wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:46 pmDoesn't the boost have to come from you to get double? Or is that only combined checks?
Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
I think we are waiting on each other. Perhaps we should jump to the NPC responding at this point?

Yeah, I was waiting to see what Boomer would do, but I can't imagine it would work out in our favor. We could try and attack 1st, and hope to stop him before the cannons stop us?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
So are we thinking of striking first, or hoping he is merciful?
Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Wait. We didn’t necessarily fail. It’ll just take more persuading now. Maybe he will want us to do a job to prove ourselves.

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Hey guys, apologies for the slight delay there. I think it's fair to say that Boomer's patience wears thin after couple of "rounds" without any progress but I do think it'd be reasonable to still have a shot here. Things are more difficult but absolutely as @kanila says - you may stand a chance or an opportunity may arise.
You can retry any viable approach by upgrading the difficulty once in a last ditch attempt to re-assure him of your intentions [Opposed () Charm/() Coercion/() Deception Check].
If you wish to abandon that course and proceed straight to asking for what you want then it will be an Opposed () Negotiation Check.
If neither option appeals there's always violence! Cool Init if you initiate.

I really don't want to have to suck up to this guy, but I could try a charm check again. Does anyone have a force power that may be useful here?
Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Go for broke? Do another Coercion check but this time igniting my lightsaber? I can downgrade the difficulty for it. Plus adding the boost should help.

Maybe save the lightsaber for emergencies? We don't want to endanger the Empire's negotiations. How about coercion, and Bardax uses Influence on him at the same time?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Okay, so what exactly are you doing? Coercion check? If any of you do decide to brandish your lightsaber then you may add .
FYI, @Azzranache with your Influence control upgrade you can make a coercion/charm/deception etc check yourself and you do not need a discipline vs discipline check, simply roll your force dice with the check and use any pips to add success or advantage to the check as you wish.
If you just want to help Rashk - then you'll need to make an Opposed () Discipline Check as part of your influence roll in order to influence Boomer's thoughts. Success will allow you to remove the setback - this may be a route to reassure him of your intentions (although it only lasts five minutes) - or if you have another idea you may be able to add a boost instead. I suggest you roll first and let me know what you want after. I will deal with a failure.

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Well done guys, you've managed to get yourself a seat at the table, so to speak. Violence may not be necessary after all! I presume you'll now want to look to some Negotiation for a price on those passes.
If you want to get straight into it, then an Opposed () Negotiation with should see you through. Bearing in mind that you don't have an awful lot of cash, it'd also be useful to know out of character what angle you're going for: IE would you be looking for a good price? Are you planning to stiff them? Or get the cash from somewhere? Seeking an arrangment for payment in kind? etc

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
I think playing the whole refugee thing could work as he wouldn't expect us to have any credits (not enough for what he'll want anyway).
My thinking is just to straight up stiff them. If he wants collateral, I can always stay behind and then just sneak out later disguised as someone else?
That's a tough negotiation check so not sure if we want to risk those despairs?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
I thought we were asking for the passes, claiming we had a score lined up, and were going to offer a percentage of the profits.
Then we can steal something to give him, or stiff him.
If that's the plan, I'll try to negotiate

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
I'm fine with that. Whatever people think will work. It would be good if we could get him to show us the passes so that we know they are in the room and where they are in case we need to take a more aggressive approach.

Ok, I'll try to negotiate for the passes (with the 'we have a score lined up' angle) unless there are any objections?

Re: OOC Session 04: A diplomatic solution
Looks like you're good to go, you've got the diffuclty (). Whatever angle you go for, I'd suggest trying to make your phrasing consistent with the existing story that you're sort of refugees or outcasts. For the sake of transparency, I'm fairly relaxed about these things but if your story falls apart completely it may change the nature of the situation anyway.

got it, we are refugees that need access to the silver belt. am I offering anything in return or letting him set the price? Do I roll negotiation either way?
