i want to reply to the story thread with the following, let me know if its alright:

Thino had been sitting off in a corner of the bar, antena twitching as he listened to the local chatter trying to gather information when he saw his compatriot Ronin return with the merchant lord whose name he couldn't remember, he stood up and began making his way over to where they stood. He cut an imposing figure as he walked across the bar, tall for a rodian, and of a stockier build that hinted at a life more rigorous than even the typical one for the species of career hunters. As he walked he made sure that everything was order on his person as he wanted to make a good first impression on the group when he made his introduction, but he got there just in time to hear his young friend blurt out information that gave away their business in front of these strangers.

The Rodian sighed as he put a hand over his face in distress. Ronin was passionate but his carelessness, betrayed his youth and put them in danger of discovery. It's that youthful brashness that made you feel like you could trust him though Thino, don't forget that.

"The Empire takes what it wants, from what I've heard. They strike even when there is no rebellion to quench. They covet what they see and take as they please."
Thino turned to the human who had reprimanded Ronin, "You speak as one who has been on the wrong end of their taking my friend. May I call you a friend?" He replied to the captain in fluent Basic. There's something shifty about these individuals, Thino thought. They were too familiar, and they had noticeable battle wounds on their persons from a recent fight and yet seemed unbothered.

so finished reading through the whole story posts before i made my first one but it just occurs to me, is the player who controlled the character whose ship the main crew arrived on no longer playing?

Our pilot seems to have dropped out, yes.

So, DS, Coercion to get Marax to fork over some credits? You mentioned there would be alternative forms of compensation that don't include looting bodies, so this is my one attempt to get some of that. :) This is also Vesper's temper coupled with her sense of injustice being piqued. Vesper's no face, so a boost from one or two of the other players would be nice if there will indeed be a roll. (That is, if they want to indicate they'd help, like Lanna glowering or Ronin or Thino speaking out on our behalf or whatever.)

Vesper likes Thino and Ronin a bit more now. :)

She also knows the law's on her team's side—probably:

Vesper knows that any standing "Imperial" or "Trandosha" bounty does not extend this far into the Outer Rim as far as organized Gov't are concerned (1 Success). What you don't know (3 Threats) is if this gov't honors "legitimate" bounty hunter bounties through BH guilds. You are 'unsure' if this could be a legitimate bounty, or not. You're also not sure about the criminal element. Svae hinted as much in conversation back at Echo Base.

This is why my post at FFG stated that we needed a tech and a pilot, in that order of priority.

Oh yea those are me now lol but I’m just wondering are we leaving on that persons ship with them as an npc, or will that person have some unspeakable tradgedy that will cause for drama at the base? I was thinking about it the whole time vesper was talking to the former pilots dad.

No offense, and your character is interesting, but he is not what I was referring to in terms of either a tech or a pilot. He lacks the depth of skill (2+) or specialist talents for those roles. I'll grant that he's certainly better than having no character with pilot and mech skills.

Well he is a new character, his abilities will grow with time.

@matt Skywalker, is the last thing that robin said a thought or something spoken out loud, there weren’t quotation marks so I was confused.

If you need a pilot I can make one. If you want/need another player.

We have more use for a specialist tech than a pilot. Someone with a good enough pool and talents to do crafting or pass Mechanics checks for modding (the odds of YGG passing a Hard check aren't all that great, let alone more difficult checks for additional mods). Plus I suspect that we'll be doing ground-based missions a lot more than anything in space.

I could make a tech, I'll stay away from Chadra fan this time if that's the specialist type you need.

EotE and AoR careers are allowed correct? Or is it more AoR?

@kanilla, I made my character with the thought of being the pilot who could also be a tech in mind, going all the way to 4 on his agility and 3 on his int and having piloting space and planetary and Mech, but I only have one rank in each right now is what I believe shadow is talking about but those are easy to increase, unless everyone thinks I should forgo starting with some talents and increase these by one for the start of this character?

But seriously though this is the start of the campaign for my character, as well as basically the start for everyone else, and I was told that this was the campaign that was ok with not min-maxing at the start, please don’t make my character moot from the get go by recruiting replacements.

That was not my intention buddy. I was just browsing the threads. I'm already in a few games and I won't take a spot from ya.

@kanilla I’m sorry too, I came off as a little to brusk, haven’t got to play the flying ships mechanic since speacial modifications came out and everyone has been all about crafting, made me overreact a little.

While I definitely don’t want you taking piloting I don’t see why it should be a problem to have a dedicated tech on board.

Peter, a pilot character is more than just some skill ranks and a 3 or 4 in an attribute. What makes a character is their talents. NPC pilots, for example, have stats and ranks. What makes a PC better is that they can have better stats and they have talents (rivals usually lack talents). This is how the PC pilot can outperform and survive facing 4 TIEs in his X-wing. The average NPC tech we might hire (or find back at Hoth) is YYG in Mechanics.

You're trying to fill two roles, which is already tough especially when the roles have different primary stats. Making it much tougher is that the career and spec you chose has no talents focused on either of the two roles you're trying to fill. I can guess where you're going with the build. It'll make for a cool character ... eventually. After 50-80 more XP. It'll take that much XP before you could match a starting PC that had focused on being just a tech or just a pilot. Grabbing non-career specs (which is the only way Thino could get tech or pilot talents) start at 30 for the first spec and 40 for the second. This get awfully expensive awfully fast.

Also, 4 in Agl makes him good at combat and piloting. But had I been designing the build I would have put the 4 in Int. Mech checks are tougher and less forgiving of failure, especially since you can always add upgrades to guns to improve your chances in combat.

Lastly, I'll repeat this since it seems to be getting overlooked or not taken seriously enough: useful talents are more important than skill ranks.

EDIT: since a bunch of posts were made while I was writing this, I was suggesting to kanila that he play a dedicated tech. We need that more than a dedicated pilot and it steps on Peter's toes less. If kanila does this then Thino's stats are fine as is.

I caught what you were throwing out there Shado. Like I said it's no biggie. This is one of three forum sites I play in. Too much more and I'll be spread too thin haha.

I see what you mean about talents, although that doesn’t really apply for piloting since BH has a piloting speacializations now with the opperator. I am more used to having characters that people grow into rather than be amazing at things right away, but I’ve also never played starwars pbp before so I’m not as familiar with how pacing goes or what’s appropriate for style of game play as those who have that play experience and it’s something I’m sure I’ll get acclimated to.

Earning 20-30xp usually takes months (3-6) IRL. That's the pacing of most PbPs. Most PbPs also don't last even a year.

I have never really looked at BH and its specs, so your saying that it has a pilot-oriented spec is good news. That just reduces the price you'll pay to 20 (rather than 30) to get that. Plus whatever you'll need to actually get pilot talents once you get the spec. Something to look forward to, though.

I like your character. But I have no illusions that he's actually a tech. He's not. Again, I don't say this to be offensive. Just being brutally frank. Which is why I hope that kanila will play a specialist tech of some sort.
