Heading into Corinthium, signs and images posted to the occasional tree or range marker indicate toxic radiation ahead. Still, overland, by speeder, is the fastest and most undetectable way across the great plateaus of northern Ione.

The City of Corin sits on the edge of a basin, beside an old, dried river bed. The city is simple, majestic, peaceful, and.......abandoned. Doors are mostly shut, no vehicles in the streets, no sign of working electronics, no signs of struggle, no sign of anyone living or dead. The afternoon sky is dark and overcast across the plains, almost befitting the scene before you.

Before the group can get too close to the decayed city, Vesper swerves her speeder bike to the side and skids to a halt. She gestures for the others to do the same. "Time to see if the rumors are true." The doctor activates the retrofitted ship's rad sensor, adding over its hum, "If this place is irradiated, we'll need to know how bad." The Human focuses the device in the direction of the ruined settlement, and its display lights up.

The makeshift radiation detector shows no indications of radiation as it works passively. It seems safe enough. No signs of movement. Just the eerie sound of the wind blowing between the buildings.

It has been some time since Corin was ‘abandoned’ and most small clues have been swept away with time.

Thino hops down from the bike, letting it idle off to the side as he scans the area, paying careful attention to the ground in front of him checking for signs of life. If this place is really abandoned, then there shouldn't be any evidence of habitation.

Vesper tells the others what she sees. "Even in active mode, this baby's not picking up any rads. Maybe it is all a coverup." Even still, the doctor feels something's not right about this place. The hairs on the back of her neck stick up as she scans the settlement.

Oona keeps her eyes peeled. At Vesper's news, she feels some gratification. She strolls up alongside the doctor "See, doc? Hogswash! Glad to have it confirmed though. Damn Imperials, always with their idiotic, convoluted, grand schemes."

“Spread Out!” shouts Cpt. Kettel, as he observes the radiation (non-)reading. The group spreads out, looking carefully for clues or indications of life.

Corin is a relatively small town on the edge of a basin. Thinonotices that a section of the basin cliff that abuts the town is more of a 45-degree decline rather than a 75-90-degree cliffside. He surmises that this unnatural land feature could possibly be the location of a garbage dump. (Survival 3 Succ, 2 Threats)

Helioslocates what used to be a local cantina and casually searches for some ‘leftover’ liquor. What he thinks to be a bottle of ale half-buried in the ground turns out to be only half of a glass bottle. Underneath that half bottle is a dusty holovid recorder, half-buried in the dirt. As for all other goods and usable items in the cantina, there is nothing of any use. What used to be fixtures, tables, and chairs are all in a disheveled state of being. (1 Succ, 2 thr, 1 Triumph)

Vesperfinds a particular section of wall near the center of town that has obviously decayed a bit. However, some narrow holes in the wall strike her as unusual. She pulls out a small chem-kit used to detect carbon residue (3 Succ Vig. “…very well prepared”). The sample pulled from deep in the hole tests positive for carbon scarring, like carbon scarring caused by blaster bolts. However, (1 Threat) she is unable to determine the age of the residue, leaving open the possibility that the blaster shots were relatively recent.

Oonafinds nothing out of the usual. In her search, she accidently kicks over a small dirt mound revealing a discarded bag of Republic credits (200cr worth). (3F, 2Adv)

Finding Oona, Vesper shows her the the chemical reading on her scanner. "The carbon scoring on these walls looks like blaster fire. Hard to say when it happened, but it could've been fairly recent. Even if it's older, it doesn't really support the irradiated-city story."

Always one to track things down for himself, Thino explorers the irregular land feature (likely man-made). He can make an EASY (1 Diff) Perception check. He does notice that the hillside of packed earth was, indeed, used for refuge of some sort. It has been some time, but Thino is used to foraging over such scenes for clues (Setback dice removed for Talent).

The Captain joins Helios in the Cantina (and perhaps with Vesper and Oona) to inspect what he's found. The hand holovid recorder was covered and protected from the elements, but still has a thin, green residue on it. A partial, brief recording still exists.

The holovid picks up with an individual wearing a gas mask ....wispy, green gas in the lightless background. He breathes heavily, and hurriedly, for a few seconds....

Seconds into it, monotone, muffled, male voices can be heard in the background, as if also speaking from behind a mask or helmet.
"There! Over there!"

The recording spins erratically towards the ceiling and then towards the ground.......then stops.

Oona leans in close and runs her fingers over the scorch marks. "Well, that spells trouble. Let's hope they're old." She look up at vesper, "If they're old, then perhaps there was bloodshed when they cleared this city. If they're more recent - well that would be worse for us, we should be alert for possible patrols in the city itself." Nervous and with a twisted feeling of dread in her gut, she draws her pistol and checks it.

Seeing the Captain on the move, she follows, beckoning Vesper to join her. She arrives in time to catch the end of the holovid. "Well, that doesn't look good. Captain Kettel, sir. Vesper has spotted signs of violence; it could be recent. Perhaps Brixx's squad should spread out and scout ahead?"

It seems, he thinks, as if it is going to rain in the next hour, or so. Thino moves to the edge of the basin to closer inspect this giant mound of dirt on the side of the basin. Over to the side of the mound he notices a ghastly site.... The soil has eroded away to reveal...

Thino takes out his com and messages the group, “guys I think I know what happened to the people of Corin, come meet me at my current coordinates”

He finishes by sending them his location before putting the coms device away.

Death, all I ever see is death, I try to prevent it as best I can but how can I do it on my own? One man can’t save a galaxy by themselves. Unless they’re in the right place, at the right time.

As Thino's message comes over the comms, Vesper's eyes widen. "Captain, you might want to put that thing down…" She finds a surface for her physician's kit, opens it, and pulls out a pair of protective gloves. "Might be a good idea for me to analyze that gunk. I'll catch up with Thino and th rest of you when I'm done."

Vesper carefully takes the holovid and analyzes the residue on it.

Everyone rendezvous's at the refuge/dirt pile at the end of town, by the edge of the basin. The soldiers continue to search the town. Enough dirt has been pushed over the edge over time that a huge hill descends from the high edge of the basin to the bottom. You see what Thino saw.

"This is monstrous" Oona mutters as she surveys the pit. She approaches Thino, sensing or perhaps just presuming some unease, and stands beside him, touching his back gently to announce her presence and hopefully demonstrate a little solidarity in this place.

"How many?"

[more a question for the GM I suppose. Does it seem to be the whole populations worth?]

Thino glances at Oona appreciatively for the small amount of comfort, “It is hard to tell, that mound seems to be a mass grave and we are only able to see a portion of what it holds, but my guess would be that there were no survivors.”

Thino let out the Rodian equivalent of a sigh before asking the others, “did you see what might have caused this?”

Vesper approaches from the rear just in time to hear Thino's comment. Her gaze falls on the dead body projecting sickly from the soil. "I might have an idea how they died." She holds up a used disposable glove, dirtied by a greenish substance. "Looks like an airborne neurotoxin. Not sure what exactly. It's only dangerous if inhaled, so we should be safe... so long as we don't stir up too much dust."
