Genesys Mythology themed one shot

#1

Post by Doctor Who » Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:24 am

How many people would be interested in a mythological one shot?

Fantasy rules from Terrinoth, combined with the superhero rules from Genesys, to play people like Hercules, Finn MacCool, Coyote, Beowulf, Sun Wukong, Rama, etc.?

Just gauging interest, seeing if that's a thing anyone on the board here would ever be interested in if I got around to codifying my notes, getting a plot, and creating NPCs? mostly just to see how people like some of the mechanics, how they work in operation, etc.
Give me about 5 minutes after a post, I'll probably edit it a bit before it is finalized.

Tom Bombadil? (Probably spelled that wrong) or Beorn?

This actually sounds pretty awesome. I have several ideas for heroes who would fit various roles depending on what the party needed. Are you thinking of having the characters all come from the same cultural mythos, or would it be a mixture of heroes from different cultures, à la American Gods?

Anything could work.

American gods style would be the best, or everyone building culture heroes from one culture.

Give like 300 to 500 awarded xp, special ability progression from Terrinoth, and let people go ham as mythological figures.

Plot would presumably be some apocalypse scenario from a mythology, or from multiple. Probably wouldn't allow outright gods (Odin, Zeus, Shiva, etc.), but would allow avatars of gods (Rama, Cu Chulainn, etc.).

Yeah, the line between god and demigod is pretty fuzzy, but I hear you. I was thinking Kokopelli would make a good face/rogue, Guan Yu and Kintaro would be good tanks, Oranyan would be a good leader... The choices are limitless. (If you can't tell, I'm interested.)

How would something like Merlin resurrecting/gathering past heroes for a crisis be as a plot impetus?

that sounds like a lot of fun. I don't have this system though and cant really afford to invest in another right now.

So @SavageBob and @ThreeBFour you'd both be up for something like this?

Any idea the region of hero you'd want to play from? Or the specific hero?

I'll have to go through my mythology and have a look at various gods/demi-gods. I was possibly thinking though about looking into the Native American mythos.

Anything's good, just curious who people want so I can succesfully thematically include stuff about them.

I'd be open to playing anyone. I kind of like the idea of a pan-cultural game where people could be drawn from any culture. @swrider , I'd suspect you wouldn't have to buy the Genesys rulebook. We could walk you through character creation, and the rules are essentially identical to Star Wars. There's a "Genesys Talents Expanded" document out there that includes all the talents from the CRB and from the fantasy book (plus a bunch ported in from Star Wars), so you'd be able to jump in with little hassle, I think.

I have several ideas for an impetus, basically just depends on what heroes people pick. If everyone does a "King in the Mountain" style hero, it becomes really easy. Likewise with a hero from Asian religions that use reincarnation (which incidentally, Hercules is actually one of the Buddhas guardians thanks to cross pollination of religions)

Do you know if it would be better to solicit people on the Genesys FFG board, or on the Genesys subreddit?
