IC: The Kizer Rift

General Fentz gives a name and a location in which to pick up the goods he promised. As promised, a modified cargo skiff (with mag-crane) and set of (4) remote droids await. No questions asked by the provider. The repulsor lift has been modified to work at enhanced heights, but makes is slightly less stable when moving horizontally (+1 SB).

The area surrounding the Kizer Rift has been devastated by the ravages of the Sith War. The area is largely abandoned and most structures are uninhabitable due to the blasts that devastated the area. Much of the surrounding area has been turned into a dumping ground. You suspect that much debris has been tossed down into this rift in addition to whatever war machines were deposited there. On this side of the rift is a massively-wide section of bridge, blown away a few meters out. It is about 40m in width. As far as you can see in either direction, there is not another land-bridge in sight. At one time, this was a main thoroughfare between the two sides for land-walkers.

Deep into the crevasse, it is dark. Various plumes of gas or smokes emit from the sides. Specks of light can be seen below where residences look out into the gap. At some distance is a lone ship or two going up or down. It is well-known that garbage bots haul huge cubes of refuge down to the lowest levels of Coruscant.

"Straight down, I'm guessing!" replies Monty. "This Bantha Cargo Skiff isnt your ideal transportation. I'm not a big fan of stepping over a void of darkness in one of these. But, we'll work our way down carefully. The General didn't give us an exact time frame."

"Good idea on the breather masks!! All kinds of noxious clouds and foul air down there! The further you go, the worse it gets!"

"We're also bound to cross someone's ,territory, either on the ground or in the air. So, keep a lookout! Looks like this thing has a scanner, and we also have a hand scanner."

"We'll have to coordinate directly below the bridge collapse, as a starting point. Well have to hope that no one carried off all that debris that fell."

AAA puts her breath mask around her neck in preparation for when it's needed. "Down we go," she says to the others. "You driving, Monty?"

BA, settles in, although he keeps looking nervously at the chasm.

The decent into the massive Kizer Rift is a long one. Coruscant has a countless number of layers and a countless number of activities going on within those layers. Anjali and Alamy were smart to suggest everyone use a breath mask, as there were several areas where steam and unidentified gases spewed forth from the walls.

The environment is loud. Lots of sounds.... the hum of distant machinery and vehicles, vibrations of movement… Occasionally, debris is tossed down this enormous rift and flies past us to the bottom (somewhere below). Conversely, small ships go by from time to time. We try our best to navigate directly under the area of the collapsed bridge.

"Hmm. Wonder why the general didn't want to come down here himself," AAA quips, scanning the surroundings. "Keep your eyes and ears open."

Our navigation goes nearly perfectly! (A net 13 successes on four rolls!) The one Advantage, we'll say, is that you find something useful, perhaps? Or gain a Boost on something?

“After what seems to be hours of slow descent, there comes into view a bottom. Here, among decaying structures is an immense field of garbage and debris. To the center-right is a large chunk of a colossal spaceship. On the right side are repetitive supporting structures. The area directly under the rift is to the center-left. The whole area is under shadow with points of dim lights, making it difficult to see. Some lights are here and there in the distance, possibly from small fires or other sources.

It is among an enormous field of waste and garbage. Highlighted in yellow is the approximate area to survey (About 200-300m in length). To the left, inside that area, is a large chunk of bridgework that has fallen there.

Debris IV.JPG
Debris IV.JPG (49.27 KiB) Viewed 4688 times

In the distance (to the right of the survey area) is the partial wreckage of a large space cruiser. It sits there like half a sinking ship, its inner levels exposed. Spaced about on that side are enormous concrete supports of some sort. What they were once used for, you do not know. Perhaps they supported another level, or maybe a rail system? To the bottom of the screen on the right are giant, round containers (barrels). Empty or full, you do not know. Nor is it your first priority. The sounds you hear are a hum of distant machinery and echoes of accelerating ship engines. There is no end in sight in any direction, only darkness.

We'll use the 2 light side pips to bump up successes to 5. 2 Advantages can perhaps indicate that if we draw attention, it's at least neutral at this stage?

Hovering above the wreckage and debris below, the group keenly observes that there is some structure to the arrangement of about half of the dumping ground. Some of the debris is almost in what you would consider "rows", as if someone (or something) had made paths through it all. There are all types of debris: chunks of concrete and metal, electrical components, small land and speeder craft, etc...

AAA whistles. "Looks like someone's gone to a lot of trouble to sort things out. Maybe this'll be as simple as finding out who claims this junk and then haggling for the droids."

Anjali's eyes survey the refuse with a sharp interest. There could be all kinds of valuable salvage down here, especially in that spaceship hulk.

"I wonder what else we might find down here. Clearly more than just garbage."

BA tightens his grip on the railing of the skiff as the ground approaches. "We just need to be watchin' out for any ambush, after that welcome we got earlier I don't trust anything."

"Coruscant ain't safe this far below the surface. You're right, BA." replies Monty. "This whole thing started with some poor Devaronian named Tyrn Jiton getting shot up on the surface. Down here, there is no law. Just gangs, creatures, and lawless beings."

"We should get started. Where to start?"
he says looking at AA and AAA.

(1 Advantage) The only movement you see nearby is some sort of humanoid pushing a junk cart. He may be a junk dealer or just a scavenger. You would have to land or approach him to speak. He currently pays you no mind.

"Okay! Down we go!!!" say Monty as he pilots the skiff. The skiff settles down about 20 meters from the person. As you land, you see that it is a disheveled, human male. He is dressed in layers of clothing with ties and straps holding things together. He carries a backpack and make-shift mechanical devices hang down from his shoulders to his wrists. In his hand is a rudimentary weapon with a large blade. He looks over with a suspicious scowl on his face. Obviously a loner-type.

"Greetings!" says Monty.
