Rifle Range Pierre savagebob

#1

Post by swrider » Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:33 am

"Welcome to the rifle range. You will first assume the kneeling position here at the firing line. You will notice an increased measure of control firing from the kneeling position with a rifle (+10 to your rifle roll) kneeling is also effective when you utilize a pistol . Two magazines have been provided each with ten rounds. When I say ready you will load the first magazine into your weapon and begin observing the range. A series of 15 targets will appear. Ten of them are enemy combatants and 5 are civilians. Shoot each enemy target once and do not shoot the non-combatants. When ready take your position.
Spoiler:
@SavageBob the range can be done individually and since your character is ready we can begin. A round allows for only a single action to occur. So this range will be a series of 30 rounds. Round one and every odd round will consist of an observation check. The roll on your check will determine weather you see the target and correctly identify the nature of the target or not. Your even rounds will be firing a rifle. Your character should be good at this since it was one of your background skills.

Please roll your first observation check and I will tell you what your character sees.
your observation check is 4d10 +40 taken from your skill sheet. Also after every skill roll you make please roll a D100. Even though this is "training" you do not get the training bonus. If you read about that part in the rules I have posted. The reasoning for that is that these initial training missions are already included as part of the permanent allocation of xD10s that a character rolls.

tl/dr roll observation and then a d100 please.

You clearly see an SS officer appear at 100 meters.
Spoiler:

To determine skill increase you take your skill level roll 38 and divide it by your current skill level and round down.

38/40 < 1 so no skill increase.

Difficulty is 30 to hit the Target with rifle skill. Remember to roll both the rifle skill and the d100 for skill increase.

Spoiler:
38 (roll) / 40 (current skill) is less than 1, so no skill gain. You need 40+ to gain a point, and 80+ to gain 2.

So 3D10 / 10 becomes 3D10 / 17?
Spoiler:
The d10 rolls add your skill level to them so it will now be 3d10+17 for your rifle skill.

The d100 determined if you skill level increases and is calculated by your d100 roll / skill level. The answer is rounded down.

So with your observation you rolled a 93 we diving that by your observation skill of 40 to get an answer of two and change. Your observation skill increases by 2 becoming 42
Four figures appear at 250 meters. The figure to the far right is separated from the others by a distance of approximately 5 meters and appears to have the silhouette of a dress. The figure farthest to the right is a German soldier with a rifle pointed to the left in the direction of the other three figures. The middle two figures are clothed in civilian attire and appear to be looking at the soldier.

The shot goes wide leaving all four figures still standing. A few moments pass before the figures drop.

An unrecognizable figure appears at 200 meters a German pilot at 50 and a postal worker at 100
Spoiler:

Next observation difficulty 50

Your rifle skill is currently a 17. 22/17 is one and some change so your score increases by 1.

The German pilot drops to the ground.
Spoiler:
You should try the other shoot just so you have a chance to increase your skill.

You rolled a 1 on one of the d10s on your observation check. 1 and 0 want like that and advantage. You take -10 on your next observation check. A 0 allowed you to take+10 on a check or +5 on a skill increase roll.

your next check would be observation you will get a -10 because of the previous 1 roll on a d10.

Your set of rolls has not quite played out as well as the others. I'm hoping that turns around to make the system become more clear. I'm also working on a roller specifically for this game that will help simplify things.

Guessing that's another miss, and another 1 means -10 on my next check.

I think my Observation went up (see post above), correct? I'm unclear how to read the 03. And does the 0 do anything special for me?

Does my Rifles go up 1? 27/22 = 1 point something.

Spoiler:
03 on the observation skill increase = 3. it just always displays as two or three digits. That zero has not positive or negative effects. Unfortunately you just miss on the Italian soldier.

Going back through it looks like your observation should be at 42 and your rifle at 23. Not a huge increae to your observation as it only increased two but your rifle went up significantly.
Nice try. Looks like you need a little bit more practice shooting. Before that, though I have a few questions.

What was the range of the german soldier (difficulty 30 memorization)? What about the German pilot? What is the approximate age of the postal worker (memorization 40) and finally can you provide me with a description of the postal worker (Description no DC better the roll the better the description)

Spoiler:
Since some of the others are finishing up, I figured I would post these questions as a group. You can answer them one at a time or go ahead and answer/ roll for all of them.
After that the range officer will help you work on your shooting a bit.

Don't worry I can teach you to shoot. The easiest position to shoot a rifle from is prone. Lay down on the ground with the rifle in front of you. Use your elbow to support the rifle. If you have sandbags, a log, or similar object you can further steady the rifle. Waiting for Pierre to lay down on the ground, the range master lays next to him and facing Pierre before calling for a 300-meter target to be raised. "Okay, now follow my guidance as you line up and take this shot. You may not get it right away, but I'll be here to help you tweak the process.
Spoiler:
Okay from the prone position you add +20 to all rifle checks. You had +10 when kneeling. Now that I think of it I am not sure you applied that on every check. My bad for missing that.
Additionally, the range master is performing the aid action. He is allocating his 3d10 rifle skill to you for your shot.

So you roll your 3d10 + 3d10+ rifle skill +20 bonus. There is a good chance you will not get the target on your first shot. That is okay. Make one roll then one skill improvement roll. Use your new skill to make another. Do this until you make the shot.
