Skills Day Discussion
Re: Skills Day Discussion
Best roll wins. There are a few options for the person who wins. In short: deal damage, grapple the other person, pull the punch (i.e. hit but not hard like you would do in training).
Damage for an unarmed strike is 1d10 +10.

I'm not trying to hurt Pierre, that just wouldn't be right. So...
Re: Skills Day Discussion
So, I'm in a grapple hold. Do we roll opposed again? Is there any bonus or penalty for either of us since Gavin has Essomba in the hold?

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Gavin has grabbed Pierre. Doesn't necessarily mean that he has an advantage of any sort. This is why I wanted more clarity from the GM on opposed rolls. Gavin can be in a position where he's just got a hold of him, or has him in a bear hug, or has him off-balance, or has him in a choke hold. Or, or, or... There are a LOT of possibilities.
I'm expecting that we're both going to need to roll again. The question is with what bonuses, if any, and how do we narrate what's going on? I don't see how we as players can. It really requires the GM to look at the rolls and tell us what happens.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
I'll get a narration up in a bit. Yesterday was just a super busy day. Today will be busy to, but not as bad.
Re: Skills Day Discussion
We don't have to keep going, but I'm curious if someone could break it off the grapple.
So over more round and then we can move on.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Going to be pretty well impossible for Bob to break the grapple if we both have the same skill and I get a +20.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Are we still adding the +1d10 to the Skill Increase roll?
Re: Skills Day Discussion
Sure. Done there is an instructor there I will allow it. They aren't doing anything else useful.
Re: Skills Day Discussion
Just checking to make sure we're good now. Or should Shado and I roll a third round?

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Pierre hasn't been able to break loose, but short of Gavin hurting him I don't know what else I can do. This whole HTH stuff is too vague for my taste. I like knowing what's possible. Rider is going to have to come up with considerably more depth to HTH if he expects players to use it.
Also, it just now dawned on me that a major omission from this game system is any sort of fatigue/strain/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. If he's using the same pool of points to express exhaustion as well as actual bodily damage it's a bad idea in my opinion. One reason (amongst many) that you need some sort of strain system is a choke hold. You can knock someone out without leaving any lasting damage. KO does not qualify as damage in the 1-50 range, or at least it shouldn't. It should just leave a lingering headache, which should not count as "real" damage. Just residual strain. Ditto use of chloroform, which existed even before the US Civil War. Yet another example of strain is pain. Twist someone's arm until they give in. Et cetera.

Hand to hand covers a varity of things. You just did unarmed combat which gave you as few options. You will see or I'll tell you other options later.
As for a strain system, I originally wanted to include one but thought it was betterrd handled narritively. I.e you tell me you choke the till they pass out. This should be the exception rather than the rule. On a mission you don't want someone waking up revealing you are there.
If it comes up again that we need one, I'll take suggestions and keep thinking of something on my own.

If no one else is interested in taking on the brick wall I’ll do it.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Gavin's not the sort who feels any need to prove himself. He knows what he can and can't do ... and this brute is outside of his capabilities. Nor does he need a lesson in humility today. Besides, he's a Queen's officer and it just wouldn't do to embarrass himself as it would reflect poorly on the Corps.

I’m looking for more skill increase opportunities.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Pretty much everyone else has done better with the roller at getting skill increases than I have. I'm unwilling to go against my character's nature and poorly roleplay him (not implying anything about you, this is about me), to try for a point or two. Go for it, and good luck!

No worries, I see what you’re saying.

Lol this is all just fun. One fights and the are there leaders. It should be interesting we can wait for the others or begin, they won't miss out.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Sorry work had me too tired to post yesterday. I added IC the next step in the Ambrus/Benito sparring match.
Re: Skills Day Discussion
May be a little bit for me to respond. Working a double.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
Haha I hear that! I guess the schedule changed two days ago and I didn’t find out until this morning I was working the double. Sucks to suck I guess. Oh well at least it’s overtime.

Re: Skills Day Discussion
@ThreeBFour sorry I thought I saw your post earlier. I would have waited had I realized you handy posted.
Good luck with the overtime shifts. My schedule is going to get hectic here in a couple months also. Finally got the start date for my new job.
