Background:
Jedediah Wesa Cooke, Jeb to friends and family, grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of the western Carolinas. His father is descended from some of the original Scottish/Irish settlers to the area with the French-Creole to the south. Jeb’s mother was Cherokee Indian. Jeb’s father, Zachariah, had fought a little in the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) towards the end of WWI, taught him all he knew about hunting, fishing, and trapping different animals and how to keep the family fed and cared for. While both his grandfathers had teamed up to make moonshine and bootleg it around the nearby states during the ‘20s and early ‘30s, they taught him how to make interesting stuff from little. It was his Cherokee grandfather who gave Jeb the middle name Wesa, Cherokee for cat.
Jedediah has learned to prowl the local forests like his name sake, stealthily hunting and navigating the mountains of his home, while learning at the feet of his father and grandfathers. He unfortunately never made it past 3rd grade of the local school (10 miles away in the small town of Dillsboro, North Carolina). As a side job Jeb has recently taken up giving guided hunting tours of the area for some of his father’s friends from the AEF, most of whom now stayed in touch through The American Legion at the nearby chapter in Sylva.
