@DeepSpacer, what do you think about the bodyguard or the thief being semi-sentient? Something in between a devoted follower and a pet. I'm thinking something like a Mantellian savrip or a Kowakian monkey-lizard. Smarter than the average for their species, but they can often pass as a pet if need be.SavageBob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 1:34 amEither idea could work. You do have an Enforcer in the band, and most Cunning stuff is covered, but some backup in either department could be useful. Let me know if you find yourself leaning one way or the other.DeepSpacer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 12:55 amI am thinking Bodyguard. She's a beautiful Twi'lek, but needs protection to keep the nuts at-bay. Something like a Herglic. Affectionately protective. ROADHOUSE
Or...orphan street thief. Took the female underling under her wing.

We also still have to come up with a name. I'm going to stick with The Raging Rontos due to it's connection to Nubia and I like the sound of it.

Not what I had in mind. Sharon Stone from Casino. Whomever it is will be someone she uses to further herself. Not a pet-keeper, not a parent. She's a bit hurt and is going to look out for herself. Anyone she has with her around the band will be someone who serves a purpose. Well, maybe-perhaps she could have that Indiana Jones monkey who does her dirty work. I will think on it.SavageBob wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:21 amDeepSpacer, what do you think about the bodyguard or the thief being semi-sentient? Something in between a devoted follower and a pet. Where's the rage? We have a petite dancing artist, her harp (for now), a synthesizer, and some keyboard(drum) players. Don't get me wrong, I like the name, but I think it is gravely misplaced. We're subtle, easy-listening, jazz music with two pretty Twi'leks and a classically-trained Chiss. We (the players) rejected the hard-living, high-risk, tough, heavy-metal, Motley Crue, KISS, "bad-boy" mystique.ThreeBFour wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:23 amWe also still have to come up with a name. Re: General Discussion
Maybe make it “The Ragtime Rontos”? Ragtime is used in jazz type music, specially the ragged timing aspect. Also Jazz has two types of music. Cool jazz, which is what most folks think of with the slow laid back nature. Hot jazz, which can be much more up beat and even frantic in nature.
Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes would be a good example of hot style jazz.

Re: General Discussion
Ah, gotcha. My thinking with the savrip was to be more of a King Kong/Fay Wray sort of dynamic, but I see where you're coming from. As for the bodyguard option, I'd want to make sure the NPC didn't overshadow Spirit's Enforcer. There may be ways to do that, like making the bodyguard more Agility/blasters focused. The thiefy NPC would be a bit easier to integrate without overlapping an existing PC (monkey-lizard or not).DeepSpacer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 3:07 amNot what I had in mind. The name could be ironic, or it could represent hot jazz, as Spirit suggested. The Ronto Ragers would be another variant that has connotations of hard drinking and partying. Some of the alternatives to "Hyperlight Echoes" I came up with were "Fast Radio Burst" and "Supernova Imposter" -- all three terms are actual cosmic phenomena that sound like they could be connected to music.ThreeBFour wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:23 amWhere's the rage? Isn't a Blue Shift what happens as you travel really fast towards a star, which I believe is then called a Red Shift as you travel away from it. A Doppler effect.Boutrose Saba-Norr wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 4:44 amhey spirit, just a question but how did you come up with that name?

Nice play on words.Boutrose Saba-Norr wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:45 pmyea it is, it was also the name of the ship me and my friends had in a different game, partially named for the fact that we were all blue-skinned aliens.
Re: General Discussion
Yeah, this was what I was thinking of when I suggested it. The fact that most of the band is blue skinned was something I only realized after the fact.ThreeBFour wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:43 pmIsn't a Blue Shift what happens as you travel really fast towards a star, which I believe is then called a Red Shift as you travel away from it. Re: General Discussion
So, looks like we have a general consensus for Hyperlight Echoes. I never intended this to be the band's name, but it works if that's what folks like. I also like Blue Shift, since it's in the same vein of cosmic phenomena and does nicely refer to the Twi'leks and the Chiss in the group. We might even say that the Elomin has a bluish hue if we go that route.
"Zannel Redbeam and the Blue Shift" or "Zannel Redbeam and the Hyperlight Echoes." Either one works for me! We can default to the second one unless sentiment changes in the next day or so.
I'm preparing your NPCs companions now.

We could go with the standard in nature that nothing is really black, but just really, really dark blue....SavageBob wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 4:08 pmSo, looks like we have a general consensus for Hyperlight Echoes. "Blueshift Echoes" is kind of growing on me, too. Pairs especially well with Redbeam. We can always change the name of the game to match the band.

Okay, maybe a bit partial but I got to admit I like Blueshift Echoes the best so far of the options. It works on so many levels.

Re: General Discussion
I can agree with the name with no problems if everyone else does. Although I do have to throw a wrench into the monkey, in other words reverse the name. Echos of the Blueshift
Re: General Discussion
Not bad. Just seems a bit wordy, especially with Zannel's name in front of it. I also like how "Blueshift Echoes" sounds like you all might be the Echoes in question. Hearkens to the theme of trying to emerge from your former star's shadow. But I'm open to whatever y'all comes up with.ThreeBFour wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 6:33 pmI can agree with the name with no problems if everyone else does. Re: General Discussion
Actually there is a very good point in there. We could have originally been Redbeam and the Blueshift, but when Zannel went solo, we changed it to The Blueshift EchosSavageBob wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 7:09 pm

Re: General Discussion
Again, I like this idea. To be honest, “Echoes of the Blueshift” sounds more like the title of an album rather than a band.ThreeBFour wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 7:42 pmActually there is a very good point in there.
