Flaw: Unknown:
Zannel Redbeam is currently a galactic sensation. The holo-zines have his rags-to-riches story down pat: His father was an Imperial infantryman gunned down by insurgents shortly after the Empire was formed. His mother raised Zan and five other siblings on her meager wages as a droid-oil-bath cleaner on Corellia. Zan's brothers danced while he sang for spare credits in Coronet City to pay for groceries. And that's when everything changed: A Nubian starship magnate heard the boy and, impressed, agreed to pay the boy's way through music school.

During his studies and soon after, Zan surrounded himself with likeminded musicians, people interested in pushing the boundaries of jizz, jatz, and related genres. The Corellian eventually found himself fronting an ensemble, a group that saw themselves at the bleeding edge of a new genre, called blueshift: Zannel Redbeam and the Blueshift Echoes. Things were looking good: The group was getting more and more gigs in higher-end venues on Nubia, Vagran, even Corulag, and fewer and fewer in dives on Corellia, Talus, and Tralus. The vibe was tight; the Blueshift Echoes were a family.

But the band started to feud over the direction of their sound. Redbeam wanted more glitz, more glimmik, but other members wanted music with soul, music with emotion. Things got colder and uglier: on-stage posturing and behind-the-scenes machinations showed just how much Zan was drifting away musically and emotionally. Then Burnt Quasar Slugs came calling. The recording label wanted Zannel Redbeam to work with them—but they wanted him as a solo artist. It didn't take long for the Corellian to make up his mind. Zan finally came to blows with his songwriting partner, Gaise—on-stage and holovized around the sector; that night, Zannel Redbeam left to pursue a solo career.

Zannel Redbeam is now known galaxy-wide. His first hit, "The Stars Are Purple for You," plays on Imperial holofeeds from Coruscant to Nal Hutta. Yet Redbeam has proved that he can also hold a grudge. His former bandmates have recently gotten a cease-and-desist letter from his lawyers demanding that they break up immediately, stop using "his" band's name, and acknowledge Redbeam's exclusive rights to the band's back catalog of music. The band fears Redbeam's lawyers won't stop at letters. They may just send royalties collectors—the kind who bring vibro-axes and truncheons.

CV-1AT

#2

Post by SavageBob » Sat Sep 29, 2018 3:54 pm

CV-1AT Image

Brawn 2, Agility 2, Intellect 2, Cunning 2, Willpower 2, Presence 2

Soak Value: 2, Wound Threshold: 10

Skills: Knowledge (Education) 3, Knowledge (Core Worlds) 2.

Talents: None.

Abilities: Droid (does not need to breathe, eat, or drink and can survive in vacuum or underwater; immune to poisons and toxins), legal protocols (1AT-series legal droids allow allies to add ImageImage to any Knowledge (Education) checks or other checks related to law).

Equipment: Inbuilt datapad, in-built long-range comlink.

Strength: Analytical: CV-1AT's mind is literally a computer, able to absorb a barrage of information and come to a logical conclusion. His solutions have the inarguable weight of reason, and he knows how to pick his battles and when to bide his time.

Flaw: Self-Pity: CV-1AT tends to blame himself for the failures of anyone around him. This compulsion can border on self-destructive and often leads the droid to doubt his value and contributions.

Mind wipes have erased all but two previous masters from CV-1AT's memory banks. But he's done enough research to know that he's one of the last of his kind. Ever since Serv-O-Droid went bankrupt after the rise of the Empire, better legal droids have come on the market, and 1AT units have been sold at fire-sale prices to smaller outfits in need of legal advice but unable to afford a flesh-and-blood attorney. Such was the case with CV-1AT: He first was purchased by a money-starved non-profit dedicated to resettling refugees displaced by Imperial expansion. When the Empire declared such activity illegal, CV-1AT was sold off to a fly-by-night holovid producer on the planet Vagran.

When the Twi'lek organist Voron Forr found the droid, CV-1AT was being auctioned off yet again after the court-ordered dissolution of the production studio, whose holoserials mostly focused on the exploits of the Jedi. Forr thought the droid's experience with entertainment law might be useful, so he convinced the bandleader, Zannel Redbeam, to let him use precious band credits to buy the droid as a first step toward the band recording its own music for wider distribution. CV-1AT did just that, helping the band protect its intellectual property as they recorded demos and distributed singles throughout the sector. For a time, the droid felt his fortunes were rising with the band's. But then Zannel Redbeam left and the band nearly fell apart.

CV-1AT is convinced the band's breakup was his fault. His AX-01 Verbobrain, ever primed to find patterns in legal proceedings, has come to the conclusion that the droid is a jinx and that any master he works for is doomed to fail. Even worse, CV-1AT has been unable to determine his own legal status; like the rest of the band's assets, he may very well belong to Redbeam, but the law is unclear on the matter.

For now, CV-1AT is staying on Nubia and helping the band stake its claim to him and the rest of the studio. But the droid has grown increasingly morose and frantic about the legal situation and his imagined responsibility for it. For now, the droid's detailed memories of the breakup are too valuable for the band to simply mindwipe away. But CV-1AT has started avoiding Targus; he just knows the moment is coming when the Elomin will set him back to factory specifications.

Raysel

#3

Post by SavageBob » Sun Sep 30, 2018 12:43 am

Raysel Image

Brawn 3, Agility 2, Intellect 1, Cunning 3, Willpower 1, Presence 2

Soak Value: 4, Wound Threshold: 14

Skills: Athletics 1, Deception 3, Perception 1.

Talents: Plausible Deniability 1 (remove Image from all Coercion and Deception checks).

Abilities: Prehensile Feet (add Image to Athletics checks when climbing); Fashion Makeover (as an action, may make an Average (ImageImage) Deception check targeting an engaged ally; if successful, the ally doubles any social bonuses derived from the appearance of worn armor or carried weapons and gear during the next social encounter).

Equipment: Holdout blaster (Ranged [Light]; Damage 5; Critical 4; Range [Short]; Stun setting), comlink, costume and makeup kit).

Strength: Open-Minded: Raysel is always open to having new experiences and meeting new people; she refuses to prejudge anyone or anything, even in situations where caution may be the better part of valor.

Flaw: Rebellious: Raysel dislikes being told what to do, especially by anyone in a position of authority.

Zannel Redbeam used to tease his songwriting partner, Gaise, that the real reason he came to Nubia was to adopt Raysel. The two shared a lot: Both members of mysterious non-Human species, both with pasts they never talked about, and both with a complicated relationship to regulations and protocol. Neither talked much about how they'd came to be together; Gaise let only a few details emerge over time: He was wasted on spice when he found the young alien crying and alone under an overpass in Nuba City. The sound of the frantic toddler sobered him up, and he suddenly cared again. There has never been much doubt that the pair now see each other as kin, biology and Imperial adoption laws be damned.

So when Gaise joined Zannel Redbeam's band and needed to crash at Zan's and Jessa's pad—indefinitely—Raysel came with him. Zan became something like an uncle, encouraging the young girl's artistic side as his own relationship with Gaise grew. Before long, the young alien was doing hair, makeup, and costuming for the band at a time when they were making a push to reach a wider audience. For the other street kids the band took in—Kri, Meshel, and Targus—Raysel was like a little sister.

So when Zan left the band, Raysel took things hard. She's become increasingly defiant, rolling her eyes and outright resisting any attempts at discipline from Gaise, let alone the other band members. For now, she's kept handling the band's look before public appearances, but if Zan ever came back for her, no one's quite sure what the young woman might do.

BD-BD

#4

Post by SavageBob » Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:32 am

BD-BD Image

Brawn 1, Agility 1, Intellect 2, Cunning 2, Willpower 1, Presence 1

Soak Value: 4, Wound Threshold: 11

Skills: Astrogation 3, Computers 3, Cool 2, Mechanics 2, Piloting (Space) 2.

Talents: None.

Abilities: Droid (does not need to breathe, eat, or drink, and can survive in vacuum and underwater; immune to poisons and toxins).

Equipment: Arc welder (Melee; Damage 3; Critical —; Range [Engaged]; Stun damage), built-in DF-15 fusion generator, built in repair tools (counts as tool kit), spectrometer, multi-spectrum scanner, manipulator arm, power diagnostic package (removes Image to checks made to remove system strain from vehicles or starships).

Strength: Adaptable: No matter what the galaxy throws at him, BD-BD always rises to the challenge. He is flexible and can handle nearly any situation, no matter how grim or strange the circumstances.

Flaw: Demanding: BD-BD is a perfectionist, plain and simple. His tastes are refined, and he's proud of that fact.

Few beings appreciate the fact that power generation is an art. Even with a mundane device, slight variations in power can add up to huge differences in efficiency. Add music to the mix, and the subtleties of power management can spell the difference between an ommni box that slays a crowd and one that clears a room.

When Industrial Automaton gave BD-BD to Ruffus "Biggums" Jhonez, it was as an astromech—the droid manufacturer was hoping to convince Jhonez to let them sponsor his next sector tour. But Jhonez used the droid's power capacities more, constantly berating BD-BD for instruments or recording equipment that seemed off somehow. BD-BD had to figure out how to fix these issues, and over time, the droid gained an intense appreciation for Jhonez as a master and Jhonez as a musician. BD-BD became a music snob, but he also became an essential part of Jhonez's musical repertoire.

It was a surprise when Jhonez gifted the droid to his student, Zannel Redbeam as a "graduation present," a gift to help Redbeam set up his own studio and make his own music. The droid hit it off with other Jhonez protégés, like Targus, and the drummer Gaise has even learned to appreciate the droid's subtle appreciation for music. Years later, BD-BD was left behind in the chaos when Redbeam left to go solo. For now, he's content to stay with the group—they've got something—but he wonders when Redbeam might come calling for his favorite astromech–power-droid hybrid.

OOM-MB20 Image

Brawn 2, Agility 3, Intellect 1, Cunning 2, Willpower 1, Presence 1

Soak Value: 4, Wound Threshold: 11

Skills: Perception 1, Ranged (Heavy) 2, Ranged (Light) 2, Vigilance 3

Talents: Brace 1 (as a maneuver, remove Image per rank from next action provided the Image is added by environmental circumstances), Nobody's Fool 1 (upgrade the difficulty of any Charm, Coercion, or Deception check made against the droid once).

Abilities: Droid (does not need to breathe, eat, or drink, and can survive in vacuum and underwater; immune to poisons and toxins).

Equipment: Blaster rifle (Ranged [Heavy]; Damage 9; Critical 3; Range [Long], Stun setting), integrated long-range comlink.

Strength: Wise: Through years of experience and countless events, MB20 has developed a rare wisdom. The wise understand the truths of how their world works. Just as importantly, they know that sometimes, with the right effort, those workings can be overcome.

Flaw: Weariness: MB20 is burnt out. It's not that her masters don't deserve her help, it's that there is always another enemy to defeat, then another, then another. The tide of foes becomes faceless, and the fighter has become jaded.

The operation should have been simple: CorSec agents would surround the Phemis compound of the insane Drall separatist Klahou Korvid, force him to surrender, and take him into custody on charges of kidnapping, terrorism, and possession of unregistered firearms. When they arrived, though, CorSec found themselves fending off wave after wave of battle droids rebuilt from Clone Wars-era scrap by Korvid's techno-cultists. After a drawn-out fight, Korvid and seventy-nine technician followers were gunned down as they advanced on the CorSec officers—unarmed.

To the Corellian holopress, CorSec's actions amounted to a massacre of peaceful citizens simply minding their own business. Never mind that CorSec found a storehouse full of baradium explosives, thermal detonators, and deactivated battle droids just waiting for a command signal. Indeed, CorSec staged its own PR campaign, holovising the destruction of the explosives and famously reprogramming the droids to serve as chipper crossing guards and traffic police across the sector.

As memories of the flubbed raid faded, CorSec began decommissioning the retrofitted droids for sale to the private sector. When OOM-MB20 came on the market, she was purchased by a human named Zannel Redbeam, who wanted to use the droid as a stage prop for his band. What could be koovier than an authentic Klahou Korvid cult droid? However, when another band member named Targus Jhonez did a routine diagnostic check, he discovered that CorSec had failed to perform a complete mind wipe, allowing Jhones to restore most of her lost memories as well as her combat programming, which, to his surprise, went far beyond Phemis and into the last years of the Clone Wars.

Much more than a stage prop, MB20 is now a permanent fixture at the band's studio, guarding the headquarters when the band is away and muttering to anyone who will listen about her violent past. She's especially hit it off with Meshel Kevon, the Klatooinian roadie. There's wisdom in the old droid, even if it is tempered with a caustic apathy.

Krieli "Kri" Kracer

#6

Post by SavageBob » Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:52 pm

Krieli "Kri" Kracer Image

Brawn 1, Agility 3, Intellect 2, Cunning 3, Willpower 1, Presence 2

Soak Value: 2, Wound Threshold: 12

Skills: Cool 2, Coordination 2, Deception 2, Melee 1, Skulduggery 3, Stealth 3, Streetwise 1.

Talents: Kill with Kindness 1 (remove Image from all Charm and Negotiation checks).

Abilities: Distracting Quip (once per encounter as an action, make a Hard (ImageImageImage) Deception check; each Image gives +1 ranged and melee defense for the next two rounds).

Equipment: Vibrorang (Ranged [Light]; Damage 4; Crit 2; Range [Medium]; Limited Ammo 1, Pierce 2, Vicious 1, after a throw, may spend ImageImage to return the vibrorang safely to possession; or Melee; Damage +2; Critical 2; Range [Engaged]; Inaccurate 1, Pierce 2, Vicious 1); heavy clothing (+1 soak).

Strength: Conviction: In all things, Kri is determined and steadfast. No matter the situation, she shows no hint of idleness or weakness in speech or action, only assertive conviction.

Flaw: Guardedness: Kri has been betrayed one too many times and refuses to let it happen again. Why expect better of a person when there is no reward for doing so?

Kri doesn't remember much about her parents: They danced for spare credits in a tapcaf in Nuba City, the city was hit by an outbreak of Endregaad plague, they died. With the deceased being poor immigrants from Bimmisaari, city officials hardly took notice. The only loose end was their orphaned cub.

Kri bounced from foster parents to foster parents; some were nice, but others... weren't. The worst was a bigwig from the corporate office of Galladinium's who took Kri in when she was twelve. She found herself treated little better than a slave, while her age and orphan status meant that she had no legal recourse to get free of the man. So Kri fled.

On the streets, she danced half-remembered jigs her parents had taught her for scraps of food. But she found that her small stature and fleet fingers made her a natural pickpocket. Other street kids she met had similar stories of enslavement through foster care; seems Nubia's corporate elite had found a loophole on a planet where slavery is outlawed. In fact, Kri made it her mission to get revenge by targeting rich business tycoons and the merchants who supported them. So of course the first and only person to catch her in the act was a Twi'lek woman named Jessa, whom Kri tried to pickpocket on a whim.

The Twi'lek took pity on the girl and convinced her boyfriend to let the Bimm spend a few nights in their flat. As a former street kid himself, Zannel Redbeam wasn't hard to convince. A few nights turned into years as the flat became a recording studio. Jessa and Zannel turned a blind eye to Kri's thieving as long as she kept up her dancing and her "procurements" were helpful for the growing business. Meanwhile, Kri became a big sister to the other kids the band took in, from a Lasat toddler to a Klatooinian street tough and a Elomin computer tech. Kri's been an advocate for a more political type of music—anti-corporate—which has caused tension with Voron. But for now, the band is encouraging her to express her sentiments via thieving.
