OOC Session 01: One Last Lesson

#1

Post by SanguineAngel » Tue May 08, 2018 7:42 pm

In this thread, please do discuss out of character the happenings in the story and feel free to discuss and plan and debate action. This is a friendly game, despite being ostensibly about the bad guys! Let's have a great time.

Some key information you may need to be aware of will be outlined below:

AN INTRODUCTION
The day is finally here. Graduation.

For years you have trained at The Academy, a classified COMPNOR facility, the existence of which is known only to the Emperor himself. Under the guidance of Master Vidarr Hoss you have been schooled in the ways of the force and of battle. Under the watchful eye of Dr. Trask, you have learned of the Imperial machine and your place within it as special COMPNOR agents - the Emperor's Hands.

Training has been, at times, harrowing and dangerous. Not every student has made it.

The Emperor's Hands
The Emperor's Hands are special agents who are, in theory, a part of COMPNOR but operate almost exclusively outside the formal command structure of either COMPNOR and the Imperial Military. The Hands are Force users with Imperial military training and a remit to seek out knowledge of the Force that has been hidden or lost, from any Force tradition.

Their existence is a secret from everyone but the Emperor. Not even Darth Vader knows of them. Though they are formally subject to command by Moffs and Grand Moffs, as well as the Emperor, only the Emperor knows of their Force training.

The Emperor's Hands are not Sith or Dark Jedi, they are simply Emperor's Hands. They are aware that the Emperor is a Force user but not that he is a Sith.

COMPNOR
COMPNOR (Commission for the Preservation of the New Order) is the political arm of the Imperial Administration. The organisation is responsible for propagation Imperial Values throughout the Empire and is staffed primarily by the most fervent supporters of Imperial ideology and the New Order, dedicated to seeing civilisation prosper under the guiding hand of the Emperor. COMPNOR is comprised of several sub-bureaus specialising in various aspects of the governance, protection and development of Imperial society:

Coalition for Progress
The Coalition for Progress is one of the most visibly active arms of COMPNOR, comprised of several departments responsible for promoting ideal of the New Order through Information, Art and for maintaining domestic security.

Science also falls under the remit of the Coalition for Progress, developing new technologies for the benefit of the Empire.

Imperial Security Bureau
The ISB is chiefly responsible for internal security within the empire, with cross-sector jurisdiction enabling investigation in government, private, commercial and military sectors.

CompForce
CompForce are the Elite Military arm of the Empire. Comprised of the most loyal and highly trained fighters the Empire has to offer, CompForce maintains a separate hierarchy from standard Imperial Military.

Sub-Adult Group
The Youth corp of COMPNOR, the Sub-Adult group boasts the brightest future citizens in the Empire, preparing them for service within the Empire in all walks of society.

The Sub-Adult group is responsible for the development of an educational curriculum, not just for young member of COMPNOR but also for the galaxy wide promotion of the ideals and values of the New Order.

Technically, the Academy falls under the purview of the Sub-Adult group, although the Emperor's Hands, once graduated, become members of a classified branch of CompForce.

Tutors
Your education has been overseen by two primary educators and has included a tutelage in the use of the Force, Combat, Military structure, political ideology etc. and has included being privy to privileged information regarding Emperor Palpatine's nature as a Force user and the 'truth' about the corruption of the Old Republic and the Jedi Order. At times, the training has been intense or uncomfortable. In truth, there is much you can't clearly recall of it.

Vidarr Hoss - an ex-Jedi with the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars, Hoss is a stern task master who has taken personal care of your growth as Force users and proficiency as fighters. He is not a formal member of the COMPNOR but is a civilian contractor personally engaged by the Emperor. Throughout your training he has taken care to foster your emotional connection to the Force. One diatribe you have heard a thousand times perfectly encapsulates the core of your training under Hoss,

“The trouble with the Jedi was their ironic obsession with the suppression of all emotion.

Emotion frees us to perform to the height of our ability. The force thrives on emotional response. Without emotion there can equally be no compassion or generosity. And there can be no hatred or anger. Those seem negative but are powerful driving forces that stir us to action. In anger, we can right the wrongs of the galaxy. Without the dark there can be no light.”

Dr. Trask - a COMPNOR science officer, Dr. Trask is the administrator of the Academy and has been personally responsible for the implementation of your cultural, political and military education.

Through your years in the Academy, she has exposed you to a number of techniques, from classroom lessons to intense and sometimes harrowing isolated testing and examination in specially designed observation chambers.

Dr. Trask is a cold, stand-offish person by nature and has show particular difficulty dealing with non-human students.

Other Tutors
Other, minor tutors have at times instructed you in the basic use of Imperial and non-Imperial equipment, from communications and survival gear, to firearms, to vehicles and spacecraft. Each of you is at least minimally proficient in the use of any equipment of relevance.

Oh, hey crazybirdman - could you use the ffg dice roller on this page in the future?
It's pretty easy and tracks roll history in one place. Makes it easier on me. Happy to use that one this time though.

@SanguineAngel will you be following the colour pattern as described in Style Guide for In-Character posting?

Should we all decide on a colour each that will represent our characters speaking or does it not matter?

Hey @Azzranache good question. I'd say yes, the style guide is pretty good for readability with speech and inner monologue.

The guide suggests particular colours for character types which I'm happy with. But don't let determining a colour stop you from posting!

@SanguineAngel Great, thanks!

So I'll go with colour 8000FF - Any character speech by Bardax will be purple.

I'm going to make a perception check on the droid. Will there be a difficulty and if so what?

I would also like to propose for an advantage dice on the fact that the droid is completely still and very easy to observe. There is no pressure to rush the perception being made.

@Azzranache a visual scan of the droids will be an Average Perception check (pp) and you can add a boost dice for your familiarity with the droids.

This will count as an action.

Ok, @crazybirdman @Davakosh that's a green light!

Seems like we are looking at a giant plug hole in the ground and if we jump in, we're potentially going to aggravate the guarding droids.

We should discuss the best way forward now and as we all have comlinks we can execute a strategy easily between our chars.

The recent perception check showed that we could exploit the droids manoeuvrability if we can sabotage their track wheels, perhaps finding a way to jam them?

We may also want to run a distraction and take advantage from behind?

These guys seem armed to the teeth (or whatever droids have) so it seems unwise to directly engage with them.

Do you guys have any thoughts on how you can use your force powers perhaps?

If want to use the foresee power here, do I just roll the force die and write what I am looking for?

Also, I'll use this color for my characters speech, if that's alright

You can roll ad part of your IC post if you don't need me to set a difficulty or anything - narrate your attempt at sense. You can contextualise what you think you might be looking for or you could add an OOC explanation. In either case explain the target (if there is one) or area. It'll be down to me what you actually sense.

I don't know, maybe we can shove the droids into the pit? that would get rid of them, and let us know how deep the hole is

Hah that's one possibility, certainly. Has a certain pragmatism to it.

Well if no one else chimes in by my morning coffee I may try it. If it doesn't work, at least my team will tell stories of me. :)

Is using force powers always an action?

@crazybirdman great idea! :lol:

Even if they survive, we could probably outrun them down there.

It appears @Davakosh has bit the bullet and gone for it with huge success! Seems these guys aren't so tough...

It is indeed. You'll spot a turn count at the top of this OOC forum. Once you've completed your turn, hit next and it'll fill in your name automatically.

So if the droid came toward me, I'm assuming it is too far from the pit to try and push it in now?

There is one droid now near the wall with you and one near the wall with Bardax. There are two by the hole with Merton who is fighting like a fury so far

Can I get to Merton in one maneuver, or will it take 2 strain to get there?

@crazybirdman It would take 1 maneuver to get to short range of merton, the 2 droids and the hole.
It would take an additional maneuver to move into engaged range with any of those things. You can use your action to do this, or you can spend 2 strain to ALSO perform an action (such as attack or climb).

@Azzranache In order to climb down the hole I need an Athletics check from you: Average with setback (PPBlk) The setback is from the damage done last round.

Raven sees Bardak make a run for the pit, and decides that's where he should head also. He rushes across the arena to assist Merton, lashing out with his saber at the TRD-2 Droid that was already hit once by Merton . . .
Spoiler:
Raven; Dark Academy; Saber attack:
0 Success, 1 Advantage

. . . and misses, but throws the Droid off balance long enough to give Merton a slight advantage.

OOC: I take 2 strain, and if it is OK, use my advantage to give Davakosh a boost die on his next attack.

Nice, no need for a response from me here. You have interpreted the dice well and passed a boost onto Merton. Perfect work.
