A lack of comprehension is evident in the uncertain looks the thugs exchange with each other. "Yeah right. Whatever, big guy. Just get moving, yeh?" The leader gestures and starts moving you all across to the entrance to the tower. Foot and repulsor traffic moves constantly along the streets, kicking up a very fine haze of dust. No one seems to pay your group any particular attention. The thug on the door is a huge besalisk in an imacculately tailored suit in traditional Isde Nahan style.

For a being of almost pure muscle, with four huge arms, and fists like plasticrete blocks - this bouncer looks professional and cordial. As your group approaches, he turns away the latest supplicant (who does not complain) and holds out a large hand to stop the next individual in the queue so that you can pass through. "Go on through, Jak. Good to have you back." He rumbles and nods to the lead thug.

Brushed metal doors stand open behind the Besalisk and lead into a spacious circular ante-room with polished floors and decorative plants and uplighters. A closed door is to your right but 'Jak' leads you directly up the staircase.

Just guessing, but I went with average difficulty. It’s funny, I’m guessing the thugs don’t speak Shyriiwookiee.

{Ah! Thanks yes - Avg is right.}
Rashk, you suspect that the door to the right in the ante-room is a turbolift. However, 'Jak' and his cohorts are definitely leading you up the stairs.

Anticipating a fight he isn't quite prepared for, Raven takes a deep breath to see if the force will reveal what awaits them at the top of the stairs . . . . . but can't get the clarity required to see anything useful.

Raven, the future is in flux and impossible to sense, or perhaps this situation just has you on edge. Jak and his cohorts lead you up a circular staircase that wraps around the wall of the tower. On each floor, a single door leads into that level's room; some open and some closed but all thrumming with activity (much of it of dubious legality).

Somewhat predictably, you climb all the way to the top floor - to a small room little larger than a cosy study. The stairs emerge through the floor leading you directly into the room itself. A large desk with inlaid computer terminal occupies the majority of the space opposite the stairs. Blue light from the screen and inlaid lighting around the room illuminates a barrel chested Quarren in a well worn jacket over understated robes and wraps. Balcony doors stand open, and a cool breeze swirls around the room, stirring the smell of spice wine. Jack and his men fan out behind you along the wall.

Image

Boomer looks up, his spiney tongue undulating as he speaks in his species' language. Almost without pause, a smoothly synthesised voice emenates from unseen speakers and translates. "Well now, what a posse! Such an ecclectic set of individuals you appear to be. It seems you've all taken quite an interest in my little operation here..." He pauses as the translation catches up, holding Rashk's gaze, "You know, I ran several rival organisations out of this district when I arrived." He looks Bardax up and down languidly before making eye contact, "There were not many more of us back then than there are of you today. But it would be a dangerous aspiration for an ambitious startup to attempt a repeat performance." It is clear that Boomer suspects you may be here to cause trouble or attempt a takeover.

Raven attempts to make his body language as passive ans he can and calmly says to Boomer, "Sir, indeed you have caught our attention, but not because we see you as a rival, we look to you as an ally. We are only here to discus an arrangement we feel would be mutually beneficial. We were on our way to properly introduce ourselves and explain this to you, but your associates got to us first, and do not appear to be the talkative type."

"Brrr.... You scatter words like pearls but you say nothing. Who are you? What are you doing here? It is obvious you are not what you seem. Look how you hold yourselves; even this beauty stands poised for violence. You talk of grand schemes - an alliance. *Gurgle* Such things are built on trust, mutual benefit, respect... You are no one. You talk circles. You have not earned this audience but for my curiosity.Do not try my patience - why have you come to me?"

Even the sophisticated translator in the walls struggles to keep up with the empassioned Boomer. (1 Advantage) Bardax, you are glancing up at the ceiling during the brief tirade and notice a couple of odd circular indents in the ceiling either side of the desk.

{OOC: You may already have an idea of what those are but an Easy (Image) Knowledge Underworld or Warfare Check would work it out.}

OOC: Well, hot damn!

Despite being directly addressed by the loutish boss, Bardax dreamily gazed around the room they were in. He appeared to be unaware of Boomer's anger and remained calm and pensive. Bardax sensed no threat from Boomer and was more distracted by himself.

"How did this buffoon end up here? Jeez, I should be running something like this. I know I could. Na, who am I kidding. I'd get bored. Nice decor though."

His inner monologuing drew his sight around the room until it reached the ceiling.

"So many different types of.. Hey, wait a minute. What's this we have here? Hmmm.."

His eyes glance over the circular indents.

Your gaze drifts across the features in the ceiling without pause - to all outside appearances exactly as at ease as if you hadn't just clocked a couple of drop-down turret apertures.

Behind you, one of Jak's crew shifts his weight. Sitting in his desk, Boomer glares at you all. His hands rest on the edge of desk in front of him. His patience is visibly thinning.

Raven replies "Please forgive the overly flowery speeches, we have recently been talking with the local government. But do not mistake my kind words with weakness. You may be a large colo fish in this pond, but you do not know exactly who we are, or what we are capable of.. " he then takes a step back and motions to Rashk

Boomer reclines in his seat - he seems unphased. Though he keeps his hands on the edge of his desk. His pupils dilate to a teardrop as he redards Rashk. He laughs in a low undulating ripple which isn't translated before speaking.

"Oh, I see. I am to take it that you represent the Empire in some capacity? Of course, the Empire is renowned for its equal opportunities programmes but I have trouble taking that seriously. You; a wookie and me; a Quarren! Him; [Chibiithii] a... who knows? I can just imagine how thrilled the Emperor would be to have us on the payroll!"

He leans forward again and jabs a finger at Raven and Rashk,"Enough. You talk, then you talk, and nothing is said. Tell me - now - what your purpose is here and what you want."

Boomer has evidently relaxed his guard a little - judging you to be all talk, perhaps.

"Ok, Ok. You got us. We are travellers. Outcasts." Bardax says sheepishly. He raises his delecate hands in a submissive gesture.

Bardax looks at Boomer trying his best to come across as harmless as possible.

"My team and I need passes for the Silver Belt and a little porg tells us you're the only one who can help." Bardax says innocently.

"Please excuse my friend. We are not here to cause trouble. Just looking for a safe refuge. We just need a few, measly passes. No one needs to know where we got them."

"Please, we really do need your help. I'm sure you're a reasonable being and we'll be happy to return the favour."

Bardax fidgets slightly and coyly tucks his long hair behind his ear, trying to maintain his vulnerable demeanour.

"At last, some progress." Boomer visibly relaxes, steeples his hands on the desk and smiles (as far as you can tell) at Bardax. Bardax feels the tickling presence of Boomer's mind through the fabric of the Force. Gently, he fans the flames of the Quarren's ego - of course, this group of outsiders in no threat to someone like me - and outwardly plays the innocent, if not the damsel.

"Forged documents... you should have said so! As it happens, little fish, I believe that I can help you. Our forger is peerless and you can be assured of the quality of his work. Please, let us talk terms... Will you take a drink?" He looks to Jak, who walks around to open a drinks cabinet to pour Boomer a small amount of crimson liquid in a crystal glass. The toughs behind you relax and you all feel the pressure immediately ease.

Raven perks and attempts to start negotiating passes for the group, "Excellent! To work then. As my old seamstress used to say 'The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people half way.'
Our group would like access to the Silver Belt, and we simply do not have the funds, nor the political pull, to acquire them through traditional means. As my associate explained, that lead us to you."

Boomer nods as you explain your supposed position, but his response is far from sympathetic. "My my, you have had a prodigious number of teachers! No, this is not a charity. I don't supply products for free - I am in the business of financial gain. If you have nothing to offer why are you here - I presume you have something to offer?"

And thus began a breif negotiation; the four of you stood around his desk and Boomer reclining leisurely in his seat. The back and forth is terse. Ultimately Boomer makes you a final offer, "It is 360 credits apiece, a special rate for those in need. That is as far as my generosity will extend. I will require payment up front before our forger is engaged."

Chibiithii is a bit confused at the talk of money. He has not yet grasped the concept as it is understood by the giants. Fortunately he recognizes the items being placed on the counter. They are similar to the one he has in his collection. Removing a small pouch Chibiithii dumps the contents of his collection onto the table (31 credits).

Boomer accepts the credit payments as they are offered up, one by one. When chibiithii's small pouch clinks onto the table, Boomer's head turns slowly, looking and the pouch, then the small Drell, and finally to the rest of the group. He waits for a long moment. When no further activity if forthcoming, he sighs.

"That is not sufficient payment. You may have three passes." He clicks his fingers at Jak and indicates Bardax, Rashk, and Raven, "These three may see Fylo. He will need their likenesses. This one will wait outside." Jak and his cohorts begin to corral you all back to the stairs. Boomer is already working at his holo-terminal, paying you no heed.

Chiibiithii waits for the translator to interpret the words of their host. Not understanding the concept of money he can not help but feel it a personal attack. Chibiithii stands taller squaring off his shoulders and starts a rhythmic chant in his 'holy language'.Chiibii chii bi chiithi chibiithii chi do.

Chibiithii's translator mangles a rough approximation to the room, causing Boomer to look up and study the Drell with some surprise. Abruptly, he lets out a loud and gargling laugh between twiching mandibles.

"Now then, I see which of you truly has the gall to take affirmative action! Very well, my bloodthristy friend, let us see just what you are made of. This district gets precious little entertainment - if you wish to fight for your pass then you may challenge my strongest employee. Defeat him, and you will have your pass."

He does not make to move himself, "Jak, escort them down to the street, instead and clear the way for a scrap. And get a book going. Luss will face this creature, it is sure to draw a crowd." He returns once again to his terminal, though this time you detect a bouancy in his posture and a rattling buzz that you realise, just as you disappear down the stairs, is his humming...

*Screen Wipe*

Boomer's crew move with remarkable efficiency. In a matter of minutes, the street outside is clear of traffic, and the waiting supplicants that had been queued outside his tower have quadrupled in number. The atmosphere in the street is vibrant and, though Jak and his crew circulate through the crowd armed, they stop and chat with many of the locals. Frequently, money exchanges hands in a brazen fashion, though just as often, it seems entirely social. Within 15 minutes, Chibiithii has been sheppharded into an open space in the centre of the street and surround by hundreds of people. Chibiithii, it is likely that this setup is vaguely familiar to your. Your own people would certainly form similar arenas when training or during ceremonial combat, though there aren't this many of your people in the entirety of the Dreadpeak mountains.

Bardax, Raven, and Rashk are left at liberty throughout proceedings. Boomer's tower is sealed shut - with the only door in closed - but you have the run of outside. You will ultimately need to remain in the vicinity, as you have yet to meet the forger to take your likenesses for the passes. But for now, you are able to enjoy the organised chaos.

{OOC: No pressue to do so, but for those who would like to, why don't you tell us what you do in the build up to the fight? Feel free to embellish the scene if you wish as it is improvised.

My next planned post will be the introduction of Luss into the makeshift arena, which I will do tomorrow.}

Raven and Rashk circulate through the growning throngs. Rashk, you spot several of Boomer's thugs taking bets. It seems unlikely that anyone here is going to be operating another book under their noses and certainly not one open to strangers. Approaching the nearest - an oily looking rodian with dark blue skin who gives you surprisingly conservative odds at 3:1 against Chibiithii.

Raven, you're more interested in what the people here have to say about Luss and, wow, people are only too willing to share - the frission of excitement is palpable. It seems that Luss is the large Besalisk bouncer you saw at the door, and that he was a pretty popular fighter here in the city before signing up with Boomer.

Chibiithii, the noise of the crowd is a constant drone in the background - something you are certainly not used to {please give me an Average (ImageImage) Discipline Check to see if you find the crowd distracting}. The hubbub grows to a palpable roar and the wall of people in front of you parts to reveal the door to Boomer's tower flung open and Luss filling the frame with his considerable bulk. Gone is the the tailored suit. Four huge arms, an impossible wide chest, and a mountain of muscle approaches slowly through the corridor opened up in the crowd. One of Boomer's goons dusts off your shoulders and looks you over, "Remember, it's a fight to submission or knockout. If you're overwhelmed you can always submit like this." He makes a gesture with his hand. "Good luck out there little guy." He ruffles your head and departs.
