Despite an inner voice tempting him to continue with his search behind the beast's back, Bardax felt a greater urge to take advantage of the distraction of the attacks. Was he actually worried for his peers? He looked down at One-Foot who gave a small cough through it's heavy panting as it struggled to breathe. Bardax grinned with a look of malice.

Manoeuvre (1): Bardax lunges forward vigorously pulling One-Foot along towards the howling creature. The ground fairly flat, it was easy to traverse across quickly. The great size of the beast growing bigger and bigger as they approach from behind (Medium - Short Range).

Manoeuvre (2): Take 2 Strain - With no time to waste, Bardax pushes himself harder to close the distance until he is right behind the creature (Short - Engaged Range). The smell of a musty dankness filled Bardax's nose as he stops to the rear of the beast.

Action: As he skulks down low, Bardax notices something on the creature's hind leg (Activate a Destiny Point). Locked around the creature's large ankle is what appears to be a heay duty shackle with 3 or 4 links of a thick metal chain dangling down. The end of the chain appeared broken as if the creature had ripped itself away from a fixture from being held somewhere. Bardax pulls an item out from his bag - it is a pair of binders. He holds his training saber firmly against One-Foot's forearm and snaps on one end of the binder, locking the saber firmly in place against One-Foot's arm. One-Foot lets out a small squeek in pain as Bardax's hasty tightening was clearly too tight on the small creature. Worried that their presence may have already alerted the ferocious beast in front of them, he snaps the other end of the binder to the flailing chain hanging from the shackle he had spotted.

One-Foot, now attached to the beast's hind leg, falls drunkenly forward with the leg's movement and thumps awkwardly into its foot. As a result of One-Foot's collision, the saber switch activates turning itself on (2 Advantage). There is a familiar hum as it lights up and comes to life followed by a sharp CRACK as it strikes the ground.

Bardax's face, still grinning menacingly, illuminates in the flash of the crack. He sees a glimpse of terror and fear in One-Foot as they lock eyes.

Tai continues pressing her attack as Bardax manipulates the creature from another angle. While her lightsaber glows off to one side uselessly, she keeps her other arm outstretched to continue crippling the creature's life force a little bit at a time.
(I'll use the dark side pip, so that's a destiny point flip, 2 total conflict, and 1 strain to me. 4 more wounds, ignoring soak, to the creature.)

The sinister red glow coming from her outstretched arm digs its tendrils into the creature's flesh and begins to tear it apart. Tai leans in and narrows her eyes at the wounds opening in its flesh, as if carefully studying her live dissection of it. A satisfied glee rushes through her. "Fascinating. Let's go deeper. Hold still. This won't take much longer."

With her current observations complete, she steps back (1 maneuver to disengage) and lowers her hand. "We will continue our session in a moment. You've been a fine patient."

Raven is about to press the attack with his training saber before he pauses, realizing he might just have a better tool for the job. He takes moment to put away his saber and pull out the fusion cutter. He activates it and uses it to accatck the beast, taking advantage of the distraction Bardax provided. . . .
Spoiler:
Raven; Dark Academy; Melee Attack:
1 Success, 1 Advantage

ImageImageImageImage
OOC, ah well, not enough advantage to activate burn, sunder or a crit. Still 6 damage is nothing to sneeze at. Can we give the beast a setback on it's next skill check
The impromptu weapon preforms admirably, and the beast roars in pain. Its roar now more pleasing to Raven's ears then they were before.

Tai, you've never felt the effects of the force so strongly. This place, this creature, and you - there is a connection between you all as you work your way into the creature's essence. It swings it's head wildly and snaps at you with powerful, vicious jaws. You take a step back, out of it's reach.

Bardax, you are forced to duck and weave repeatedly but the creature is too distracted by painful distractions to pay attention to you directly. It tries to gnaw at the dead weight attached to its hind quarters but the lightsaber tied to One-Foot's arm activates on and off with cruel randomness - repeatedly striking the thing and warding it off.

Raven, as you start cutting the creature howls in blood curdling pain. Glinting scales and flesh slake from the animal's upper body under the bright hot glare of the fusion cutter. The creature twists back and forth, confused and panicked - snapping jaws at the hapless One-Foot tied to it's hind leg, at you and at Tai.

Action: Ultimately, the searing pain you cause forces it to act and it swings at you with it's horned head. (Brawl Attack upgraded with DP)
Maneuver: Damage done (Raven is at 10/12 Wounds), the thing backs away, towards the edge of the plateua and the lift, trailing One-Foot and with the saber continuing it's erratic activations. (Moves to short distance from you all.)

2 Threat: One of you may take advantage of the reprieve and gain a free maneuver (still not using more than 2) OR Raven may add a Boost dice to his next check.

{OOC: @crazybirdman you didn't add in your disorientation - if you wouldn't mind carrying it over to your next check please? (1 setback)

I am awarding Bardax 10 conflict for his action! That puts him at 14 for this session so far.}

OOC, can the beast get a Image on it's next check for the Image?
The creature's pain and frustration grows more satisfying to Raven, but he realizes he may fall soon of the creature doesn't.

Tai circles approaches the creature with her training saber raised in a guarded stance (1 maneuver to engage and 1 more for a guarded stance, so 2 strain to Tai).

"At times like these, I often opt for restraints. Sometimes the subject can react poorly to testing conditions. One must make certain sacrifices while working in the field, though." She raises her left hand and begins to strip the flesh from the creature's back in several clean cuts using the Force. As she does, she holds her lightsaber up just right to get a good view of the flesh beneath the outer layer of skin. (4 more wounds ignoring soak)

Bardax straightens up and advances on the beast. He lifts two fingers towards the retreating beast as if reading his aim. He narrows his eyes and that familiar grin presents itself once more.

OOC: Plus 1 extra for the cave right?

Penetrating the beast’s mind, Bardax uses the force to cause strain to it twice over (inflict 2 strain). He can see in it’s eyes, the pain is a cruel torture.

The creature backs up to the edge, the lift creaking under its back feat. Under the relentless assault, it has no where to go, looking back to its hinds quarters, trying to protect itself from each of you. When the fusion cutter bites again, Raven leaves himself exposed. The creature surges forward and batters Raven back with its horns.
The creature hits Raven for 7 wounds (10 wounds - 3 soak).

{ @crazybirdman sorry! Actually I want to show you not to worry as even exceeding your WT isn't a disaster. Raven is incapacitated until he is back below the Threshold but that could simply be dazed or preoccupied with his own injuries. Also, please roll a d100 for the effects of the critical hit. Criticals are really just injured. Wounds are only minor scrapes, exhaustion etc. So this is really the first time any of you're actually hurt.

@swrider you're now up! This is Chibiithii's chance at a spectacular entrance, to the rescue.}

Chibiithii sees the giants descend with his brother down into the giant pit. Stupid giants, don't they know what is down there. Images of the great beast flash within his head. His brother has never seen the beast, but chibiithii encountered it several months ago. The feeling of power around the animal drawing him towards it. Chibiithii had been lucky to survive the encounter, but the power of the beast drew him back. Fear of the creature has kept him from initiating further contact, but Chibiithii has taken to observing. On his second trip Chibiithii realized the creature was revolted by the smell of the blood from its brothers above. Killing a creatures and bathing with its blood provided just enough protection for Chibiithii to observe from a distance. These giants were un-prepared only his brother was covered from their earlier encounter.

A few minutes pass before Chibiithii picks up the nerve to enter the cavern. He know there would be no avoiding combat, with such a tasty menu being presented. That could not hold him back. He had sworn to his brother to protect the giants. Besides they brought his brother back from the dead :twisted:. Chibiithii had to learn the secrets of this power the secrets of the giants, saving them and his brother from the beast could allow that dream to come true. The climb down the elevator shaft was treacherous, but quietly Chibiithii landed on the top of the elevator cage in time to receive the shock of his life.

Chibiithii's brother, not normally one to rush to the front lines of a battle in which he was out matched, was wielding a fire sword and attempting to break the beast. He wielded the sword expertly, keeping all further limbs intact, and pulled upon a rope connected to the beast. A tactic not unfamiliar to that used by the tribe to tame wild beasts. Inspired by his brothers courage, and in awe of his tenacity Chibiithii watches as he fights along side the giants. Alas the best seems like it may be too much and it begins to tame his brother! The giants themselves seem battered by the assaults of the monster and Chibiithii realizes it is time to face his fears.

(Maneuver 1) Grabbing onto the support below him he swings out into the midst of the battle landing adjacent to his brother. [short to engaged range] Ch bi Chibiddi ciiimi, bii iithiii chibi bi. Chbi thiibidiii bi chibidii. He roars out in support of his brother, drawing the beasts attention to himself an
(maneuver 2)[2 strain] As he lands the fire spear attached to his back is pulled forward, ignited and placed between the beast and his brother.
(action) Bi ciiimi! He roars as he plunges his spear into the beast. The sizzle of the spear colliding with the beast providing a satisfying sound [10 stun damage - soak] but not as satisfying as the memory of the sword that cut off his brothers foot. None the less the the sound invigorated Chibiithii [2 advantages to recover 2 strain from second maneuver] and the wound should create an opening for one of the giants. [1adv to pass boost die to next ally]
{I thought about picking raven up and using him as a human shield but considered it may take an action. }

From nowhere, a diminutive figure drops from the darkness into the fray, arresting the creature's mauling of Raven and driving its Lightsaber weapon deep into the creature's flesh where the fusion cutter has left it raw and vulnerable.

The animal lets out a wet rasp and stumbles further back onto the lift, which teeters under the weight. Metal tears loudly, the platform tips, and the creature loses it's footing completely. It topples over the edge, knocking against the scaffolding that forms the lift shaft and disappearing from view. One-Foot, still tied to the creature, is whipped from the platform - tossed like a ragdoll whether he is alive or dead already is impossible to truly tell.

After a loud splash, there is silence.

{Combat is resolved! You are now out of structured time and roll to recover strain while you take stock.}

Bardax lowers his pointed hand slowly revealing a slightly agasp look on his face. As the adrenaline fades, he starts to realise what just happened. A look of guilt flashes across his face.

Before anyone can notice however, Bardax becomes aware of himself and shakes off this sympathetic look with another cocky smile.

He draws his pointed finger to his mouth and blows on the tip as if blowing away a smoking gun.

Chibiithii, you reach the edge in time to see the hazy blue glow of the light saber flickering on and off as it recedes in the water. Eventually, even that is lost from sight.

Tai stands back as the creature is driven over the edge by the small weaponized creature who joins them. Her large eyes study the scene as the lightsaber melts its way into the larger creature's flesh. Her nostrils flare as she inhales deeply of the vaporized fat and muscle that is released into the air.

"So they know fear as well. I had wondered if it was capable," she observes. The Kiminoan cranes her neck forward to listen for any further screams as two bodies plumet to their deaths, but she is left disappointed. "It seems the other went beyond its threshold. Perhaps that was due to its size."

With her observations over, she enters her collected data into her datapad while standing beside Raven. "At least one wounded subject will be able to be recovered. There will be more opportunities later." Without even offering any concern for Raven, she holds a hand out and manipulates the Force to repair the damaged flesh of her ally.

I'll use that dark side pip to heal Raven for 4 wounds. That's another conflict for me. Tai is essentially just healing as part of her experiments instead of out of any concern for Raven's well-being. I'm totally losing the ability to Force heal soon. Dark side, here I come! :twisted:

Tai, your demeanor is casual but you may be surprised when you reach out to manipulate the force. Despite the benign nature of the task, you can feel the emotions coursing through Raven and a greater rage suffusing the environment around you in a way that you are unaccustomed to. Though the fight is over, the feeling is similar to the rush of adrenaline you felt fighting the subject. Many of the emotions flowing from Raven are foreign to you but there is a desperation that feeds your ability even so. For the first time, you are able to wield the Force with a surgical precision as if you were operating on the patient yourself, not simply by feel and intent but with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the patient's anatomy.

{Raven has spent a DP to affect the nature of the Vergeance. Whilst performing Heal in this place, you do so with a degree of Control you do not usually have access to (adding your ranks in Medicine to the Wounds healed - a 4th tier upgrade). I have flipped the DP for this already.}

Tai gives Raven a few pats on the back once he comes to and starts speaking coherently to her. "Ah... yes. Of course I care about all of my patients," she lies outright. It's not even that good of a lie. "But this being is not one of them. Perhaps it is related? That would be very unfortunate. Or... perhaps fortunate depending on your point of view."

As the group start to recover and reflect, Bardax watches the new rat creature intently. He glares through cautious eyes and wonders.

Another one!? Did it see what I did? No, no.. It was too dark. But what if it DOES know??? It'll be out to get me. Ah come on, it's just a small, primitive creature, I could help it! It may be different from the other one. The other one. The other one...

Bardax swallows hard as he has flashbacks of One-Foot looking up at him being attached to the large beast. Then of it going over the edge, falling to it's death. It's eyes. Such fear and pain.

As Bardax continues to argue with himself in his head, he remains stationary where he stands.

A moment becomes an hour, though you do not notice. You are able to enter a meditative state with reasonable ease and look inside yourself, as you have been trained to do. Everything is tainted by a sense of loss the suffuses this space but there, underneath, is your own connection to the world around you.

The rest of you spend the time as you see fit. It takes a curiously long time for any of you to notice that Sul is missing. He was last seen on the lift, frozen in fear when the creature went over the side.

{@crazybirdman could I ask you to expand upon this? Raven is a spritual charact and this feels like an appropriate time to explore that a little. Additionally, some detail would help me in guiding you to the next bit.

How does your connection to the force manifest itself in your mind's eye? Is it visual? Auditory? Abstract? Particularly, what sort of emotions are conveyed. Is this how it always appears to you or has it changed now?}

Chibiithii attempts to communicate with the giants indicating the way out of the mines. His attempts seem useless, however, as one of the giants gets a blank look on his face and goes silent for an hour. Little is spoken during this time frustrating any attempts Chibiithii makes to recognize their language.
