Going off what was asked for the roll here are the results:

You have a strong feeling that one of the sponsors is a swoop provider. But you aren't 100% sure if they would be local or a traveling vendor. You also know that other sponsors might not be directly tied to racing.

Just let me know where you are going. You can always split the group to cover more ground.

Bookies are easy to find.

I vote bookie next. Maybe it's a Wookiee bookie. Streetwise to find one? En route, maybe we can hit up a vendor to get new duds for Runt.

Cool; should we smash cut to a bookie, then? I really don't have much planned out for a social encounter with one, just asking for a list of racers and the odds on each. If it's faster to just say we did that, that's fine. But if you have an encounter planned, let's run through it.

I was also thinking that a shop owner may be able to tell us more, as they are generally locals attuned to the gossip of the area.

We can hand wave the bookie if you want. I don't have any encounter trying planned until you guys reach one.

I also was thinking the same as 3b4 about the shop owners.

I'm not much of a gambler so I'm not 100% sure those sound like good betting odds haha.

Not a gambler either and they work for me.

I would assume that the odds are generally made by what is known about the ship's general design (engines and handling) along with race history.

In horse racing, the jockeys are listed, too. Are the pilots of these ships listed?

based on the odds the two locals are most likely assumed to win, although there is no front-runner, someone who is two to one in the odds, if I were to warrant a guess as to why we, the newbies, are not dead last in the odds it would be because of the quality of our ship or the nature of our reputation. don't know about anyone else but vo definitely had an exaggerated reputation as someone who could outrun anyone, until he didn't lol, but he is also using a different sir-name now so that might not have anything to do with it. I was hoping we could have some fun with betting on ourselves to win and make a lot on the odds but still at 4 to 1 we could quadruple our money.

Buimo would go for this, but he's nearly broke at 21 credits. And Runt needs new clothes, so that will deplete our funds even more (by 50 or so, assuming he gets Heavy Clothing). So we could pool our resources, but we should buy Runt's clothes first. Not sure if Kanila wants us to roll for rarity on that or to just assume we did it and subtract the funds.

If it's just heavy clothes just hand wave it. If you want to try for something more than that you'll need to roll.

You guys still want to rp the shopping trip?

We can if 3B4 thinks we might glean some useful information from the shopkeeper. Otherwise, Buimo's beginning to think he needs to study the course map like those Duros! :)

Study of the map is probably a really good idea.

So, sounds like we have Runt's new robes (I'm guessing Runt paid for them?). @Boutrose Saba-Norr, did you want to put a bet on us with the bookie?

One more thing that might be worth doing (whether before we head back to the ship, or in the morning before the race): Find a gambler who seems in the know about the races. Get the skinny from him or her about why the odds are as they are. Might require a bribe (since we're asking the person to give us "tips" that could be used to gamble with), but would help us round out our knowledge of the other racers, what they're flying, and perhaps even some insight into their different racing styles. Perhaps a Streetwise check to locate such a person?

@SavageBob Vo was going to check with the shop keepers about the crime families and other possibilities for connections and money making, as well as to see if our shared benefactor, the loan shark, has any contacts on the station that she is using to monitor us, but it is probably a bit out of his depth at the moment.

He can try it and possibly bungle it but I think he would more likely make these suggestions to sol since he is more acquainted with this kind of thing, so if @Kal Drahr wants to do they after Vo suggests it then that would be good.

Otherwise he is studying the maps.

@kanila what would be the difficulty at trying to figure stuff out like short cuts and potential traps and hazards by studying the race course?
