There is another option besides getting a broken down droid. You could buy mods for your Slicing Computer.

2 Innate Talent (Codebreaker) - The character removes per rank of Codebreaker from his attempts to break codes or decrypt communications. In addition, the character decreases the difficulty of his Computers or Intellect checks made to break codes or decrypt communications by one (this does not increase with additional ranks of Codebreaker)
1 Innate Talent (Defensive Slicing) - When attempting to defend a computer system against intrusion (or when an opponent attempts to slice a computer owned or programmed by the character), the character adds per rank of Defensive Slicing to his opponent’s checks.

I guess the question is how long would it take to attempt the mods vs. (re)build a droid? We’re looking for something that keeps Runt occupied and out of the cargo as the primary goal. Benefits are secondary to that.

Narratively it can take the whole trip if that’s the intent.

While the mods would be more beneficial overall, Runt is a Tatoonie native Jawa and the droid would probably do more to keep him out of the cargo.....lol

Think we’ll go with the droid for now. It’s what would first come to Tarko’s mind.

I’ll allow you to roll a Mechanics check to know about the droids. Only one roll is required. Because you are alone no one else can roll for you. vs Mechanics

I think so. Really only thing that could be played out is dumping the protocol droid at Runts feet.
